The book summarizes inception and history of the renowned Polish international conference Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics.” The first Workshop of 1982 was organized in a venue that was to easily become its most recognizable and unique brand, Białowieża. The topics of interest were focused from the start on an increasingly important, distinctive blend of mathematics and physics which might be presumably best described today as mathematical physics. As comprehensively chronicled in the book, specific interactions of rigorous scientific disciplines, individual participants of the Workshop and Białowieża’s natural surroundings provided essential knowledge transfer, generated countless successful collaborations together with complementary interpersonal relations and generally contributed to development of excellent science on the highest international level.

The book contains the history of the “Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics,” founded and organized for almost 40 years by the recently deceased long‐time professor of physics and mathemaꢀcs at the University of Białystok, Professor Anatol Odzijewicz. This annual conference continues to be organized by the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Bialystok, and due to its international character it is an important part of the scientific and teaching life of the Faculty and provides the University with worldwide prestige. The idea of commemorating the 40th anniversary of the history of this series of conferences is very valuable and helps to preserve the memory and honor the founder and important participants of the Workshop. Unfortunately, people are passing away and this was probably the last moment to gather information about the beginnings of the Workshop's history.
